Implant retained dentures have grown in popularity as an alternative to traditional unsecured dentures. Burleigh Denture Clinic can provide patients on the Gold Coast with implant retained dentures that are both durable and comfortable.
If you are experiencing discomfort with your full or partial dentures, implant retained dentures is your solution. Implants can replace one or multiple missing teeth, which can help prevent bone loss in the jaw and is secured to increase chewing ability. This provides you with more freedom on what you can eat, and can also improve on word pronounciation. Implant retained dentures are the best replicates for natural teeth as the implants provide support for facial structure, which can help improve the overall appearance of your lips and cheek area.
At Burleigh Denture Clinic, our dental prosthetist Mladen Simic will handle your entire implant process from start to finish to ensure consistency. Typical implants will require two procedures before it is permanently lodged in your denture framework.
Prior to placing any implants, a consultation is required to evaluate the overall health of the mouth. This includes examining dental records, x-rays and creating impressions of your gum and teeth to construct temporary dentures.
The first procedure consists of an incision in the jawbone where the implant will be placed. You will then be provided with a temporary denture that is placed ontop of your implant while your incision heals.

The second procedure cannot be performed until x-rays show that the implant has fused with your jawbone. Timing of the second procedure depends on whether your implant was on the lower or upper jawbone. The lower jaw bone can be operated on 3 to 4 months later, whereas the upper jawbone tends to be 5 to 6 months after the first procedure.
Once the implant has fused with your jawbone, an incision will be made to expose the top of each implant, where a healing cap will be placed on top for 14 days. Our prosthetist will then create a new impression for your permanent dentures. If you’re happy with the results, and everything sits comfortably in your mouth, your new permanent dentures can be clipped onto your implants.

Overall, the entire implant process can take up to anywhere between 5 to 7 months. This is all dependent on how many implants is needed and whether the implants are for the lower or upper jawbone. Typically implants in the upper jawbone will take longer.
Just like natural teeth, good oral hygiene consisting of brushing, flossing and regular check ups will ensure your implant’s longevity.
This depends on the placement and bone density, but often two implants will be enough to support a four tooth denture.
You will only require a temporary denture if you don’t already have dentures for your missing teeth. Temporary dentures are required after the initial implant as a placeholder.
Dental implant procedures are mainly performed under local anaesthesia, but general anaesthesia is available for complex cases.
