If you still have most of your natural teeth but want to fill in some missing gaps, a partial denture is the solution for you. Burleigh Denture Clinic can create custom partial dentures that can replace one or several missing teeth for all patients on the Gold Coast.
Patients often need partial dentures to help improve the overall appearance of their teeth, or if the missing teeth has damaged their chewing ability. The loss of even a single tooth can cause the surrounding teeth to become crooked, and cause misalignment of your upper and lower teeth. This can create more complicated dental problems in the future, as well as discomfort and pain. By wearing a partial denture, the remaining natural teeth is supported as natural chewing and grinding of the teeth can be evenly distributed. At Burleigh Denture Clinic, our partial dentures can either be acrylic or metal based.
Acrylic is the most common material for partial dentures as it is easy to repair and additional teeth can be added onto the denture if required. It’s important to note that acrylic partial dentures tend to be more bulky, and are prone to more damages compared to metal based dentures.

Metal partial dentures tend to be thinner and smaller, so they offer better fit and can sit more comfortably against the gums. The metal framework means it can provide much stronger support for your remaining teeth and is more durable than acrylic dentures.
Partial dentures are attached to your natural teeth with metal clasps, and your saliva also creates natural adhesion. We also recommend all our patients to receive a dental checkup prior to deciding on a partial denture. Your dentist will inspect your teeth for any issues such as gum disease, tooth decay or tooth loss so you can receive dental treatment before we insert your partial denture. Our qualified prosthetist can also provide tooth addition and repairs to your partial dentures.

When you first receive your partial dentures, it can be useful to have it on constantly to help you adjust to the new sensation. When you are comfortable with your dentures, we recommend you remove them at night for cleaning.
There will always be discomfort at the beginning of wearing dentures, but you should start to get used to it after 2 to 4 weeks. You might also experience increased saliva as your mouth accommodates for the denture.
Yes! Additional teeth can be easily added onto partial dentures, talk to your prosthetist to discuss your options.
We recommend cleaning your partial dentures with a toothbrush that has non-abrasive bristle. Clean the denture over the sink that’s covered by a towel to prevent damage if it falls. You can also soak the denture in denture cleaners to prevent build up of tartar and plaque.
Dentures can be customised by shape and colour to match your natural teeth. In most cases, it will be difficult to notice that you have partial dentures.
